This new Canadian version of one of the world’s most enduring love stories combines drama, music and dance in an extraordinary evening of theatre. A beautiful young woman is seen in the forest by a king. They fall instantly in love and he swears his eternal love, promising to return for her. But an evil spell is cast over him that makes him forget her. The play consists of Shakuntala's great courage and astounding determination to overcome all obstacles and to see the promise fulfilled. A masterpiece of poetry, story-telling and character, with beautifully choreographed dance sequences, this play is credited with bringing psychological realism to the ancient Indian stage. With a cast of ten actors, Shakuntala will provide a delightful occasion for discovery among regular theatre-goers and a moment of celebration for our vast South Asian community.
