Pleiades Theatre and Carlos Bulosan Theatre (CBT) return a pivotal work to the stage with a reading of People Power. The play which originally premiered at Theatre Passe Muraille in 2006 was a commemoration and celebration of the events of EDSA1, also known as the 1986 People Power revolution that ended the Marcos dictatorship, martial law and saw the restoration of democratic institutions after 13 years of totalitarian rule in the Philippines.
36 years later, the deposed dictator’s son, Bong Bong Marcos was elected to the Presidency... The original CBT People Power Collective team are revisiting their landmark play to hopefully put the events of People Power back into the community’s awareness.
In addition to the reading, the event will include a panel discussion with community leaders, a preview of new work by the next generation of theatre artists and an exhibit of artwork by local Filipinx-Canadian artists.
